Billy Button Place

What started as a steep, unusable space has now become one of our favourite little garden transformations. The site was challenging, with its uneven slope and limited access, but we saw the potential to turn it into a space that’s both functional and welcoming. Rather than fighting the terrain, we worked with it, introducing two terraces that bring structure and flow to the garden.

By incorporating a pedestrian gate, burnished concrete steps, bench seating, and two soft terraces, we were able to turn an awkward slope into a space you actually want to be in. The steps and terraces create a sense of movement through the garden, connecting different areas while providing spots to pause and enjoy the surroundings.

Perennials now spill and sway through the garden — Billy Buttons, Verbena, Teucrium, and Pratia weaving naturally between the terraces and steps. These plants were chosen to compliment the scale of the garden, provide year-round interest, and soften the concrete. It’s one of those gardens that feels inviting the moment you step in — Every detail, from the layout of the terraces and steps to the plantings, were designed to create a sense of calm and enjoyment, turning a once challenging slope into a relaxed, usable outdoor space.

We’re proud to have designed, built, and now maintain for this garden.
